Descrizione
Presentation examines the effect of temporary employment on work-related injuries, using the 2018 Italian labor market reform as a case study. The reform aimed at restricting temporary employment, and the paper adopts a Difference-in-Differences approach combined with a synthetic control method to address potential endogeneity issues. By analyzing detailed administrative data on injuries and employment contracts, the results show no significant overall impact of the reform on injuries. However, the study finds notable reductions in mild injuries, especially among high-risk groups such as men, foreign workers, and in certain local labor markets. Further analysis suggests that these reductions are driven by improvements in working conditions rather than biases in injury reporting. The findings highlight the importance of focusing on improving working conditions, rather than solely concentrating on contract types, as a more effective strategy to reduce workplace accidents.
