InExEc Center (Insubria Experimental Economics)
The InExEc Center is dedicated to the study of individuals’ economic decisions and behaviors, using laboratory experiments (lab experiments), field experiments, and surveys (including survey experiments).
Objectives of the Center
The Center’s main goal is to promote and conduct research projects that collect data on economic decision-making, with particular attention to decision contexts characterized by high uncertainty and instability. These studies are part of the Department of Economics’ project, funded under the Departments of Excellence program, titled “Decision and Behavioral Models in Contexts of Uncertainty: Innovation and Evolution of Economic Systems.”
A Multidisciplinary Approach
The Center adopts a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, integrating economic, legal, mathematical, and business expertise to analyze decision-making processes and the economic, institutional, and social contexts in which they occur, also employing historical and methodological perspectives. Key activities include conducting experiments in the laboratory, in the field, and online, as well as organizing surveys, with particular focus on decision contexts where cognitive, psychological, and social factors play a critical role. The Center combines lab experiments with surveys and field experiments, leveraging the strengths of both observational data and controlled experiments.
The InExEc Center has an organizational structure that includes a Scientific Director, a Scientific Council, an Assembly of affiliated researchers, and an Ethics Committee to ensure compliance with ethical and scientific standards. Additionally, the Center promotes collaborations with other research institutions in Italy and abroad, participating in national and international projects, with the aim of establishing itself as a network hub of excellence in experimental economics.
